Description
Chevrolet De Luxe Coupé 1939 – American classic with character A beautiful 1939 Chevrolet De Luxe Coupé with elegant lines, generous chrome details and the distinctive presence of a true pre-war American. Finished in black, with an atmospheric, well-preserved interior and a 3.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine with manual transmission. This Chevrolet has retained much of its original character. Not a concours model restored down to the last detail, but an honest, largely original classic with presence and history. Considerable investment has recently been made in mechanical maintenance to make the car roadworthy again. RECENT WORK CARRIED OUT • New, custom-made fuel tank. • Completely new, custom-made exhaust system. • Rear brakes renewed and brake components checked. • New 6-volt battery installed. • General mechanical inspection, maintenance and various adjustments. ENGINE AND DRIVING The engine starts and runs smoothly. When cold, it may require a slightly longer cranking time; when warm, it starts quickly. The gearbox shifts well through all gears. There is some play in the shift mechanism, which is in keeping with the car’s age. During inspection, no notable oil leaks were observed. No excessive oil consumption is known. A compression test was not performed. The car drives and offers the relaxed driving experience that suits a pre-war Chevrolet. BODYWORK AND INTERIOR The body appears solid and straight. The black paintwork presents well, with normal signs of use. Whether black is the original factory color is not known. The chrome work is complete; some parts would benefit from cosmetic attention. Glass and rubbers are in good usable condition. The interior is tidy and has retained its authentic atmosphere. Seats, upholstery, dashboard, headliner and door panels present well. Instruments, interior lighting and heater work. POINTS OF ATTENTION For a clear picture of the car, we also mention what still needs to be done: • The braking system still needs to be bled again and finally adjusted. • The indicators currently do not work and need to be checked. • The exterior mirror adjustment mechanism deserves attention. • The new battery is slightly too tall, causing the floor cover panel not to close fully. A battery with the correct dimensions will resolve this. • Some chassis parts can still be finished with black chassis paint or a protective underbody treatment. • The tires are usable; production date and exact tread depth are not known. As a precaution, the battery is disconnected during storage. DOCUMENTATION Brazilian title and registration documents, restoration invoices, technical drawings and one key are present. The car has no Dutch registration. A complete historical maintenance file and independent valuation report are missing. Extensive photos of the car, underside, engine bay and documentation are available. A characterful Chevrolet for the enthusiast who values originality and presence. The most important recent mechanical work has been completed; the mentioned finishing points offer room to further tailor the car to your own preference. Selling due to too many ongoing projects.
