Description
Fiat 500 Giardiniera – 1969 A genuine Italian time capsule – preserved for the enthusiast who understands what it is Some cars are bought because you need a car. And some cars only cross your path once. This is one of those cars. For sale is a 1969 Fiat 500 Giardiniera, featuring the unmistakable suicide doors, original soft top and original interior. A car that has not been rebuilt to look old, but has simply been allowed to remain what it has always been: a little piece of Italy from another era. Original. Unspoiled. Unchanged. This Giardiniera has remained remarkably close to the way it left the factory. Nothing has been modernised, converted or altered simply to make it more attractive to today’s market. And that is exactly what makes it special. The car still sits on its original tyres, has its original roof and retains the original spare wheel. The original interior roof lining has also been preserved. A replacement original roof lining is included should the next owner wish to renew it, but we deliberately chose not to replace the original because, to the right collector, every untouched part tells a story. The car also comes with a new original-style soft top, giving the next owner the option to preserve the car exactly as it is or carefully bring certain parts back to a more pristine condition. The original interior is finished in a beautiful dark brown colour and has remained remarkably well preserved. Original seat covers are also included for the front and rear seats, including the driver’s and passenger’s seats. Again, nothing has been changed simply for the sake of appearance. Mechanical condition The car has approximately 34,000 km. After having spent a period of time standing still, the car was carefully brought back into running condition. The following work has been carried out: • New spark plugs * New air filter * Fresh engine oil * Fuel tank completely cleaned * Engine and fuel system brought back into running condition The little twin-cylinder engine starts, runs beautifully and the car drives exactly as you would expect from an original Fiat 500 Giardiniera of this era. No modern engine. No modern electronics. No unnecessary modifications. Just the character of a small Italian car from 1969. The story of the car The car spent the majority of its life in Italy before being brought to the Netherlands in 2000 by its previous owner, who became its first owner in the Netherlands. He kept and cared for the car for many years, preserving it rather than turning it into a restoration project. The documentation, receipts and paperwork that have been kept with the car form an important part of its history and will accompany the car. I subsequently purchased the Fiat directly from him in the Netherlands, making me the third owner of the car in total and its second owner in the Netherlands. Since purchasing it, I have driven it for only around 100 kilometres. It has mainly been kept safely stored and is occasionally taken outside on a beautiful day, simply because a car like this deserves to be driven and enjoyed rather than forgotten. Not just another Fiat 500 This is probably not the car for someone simply looking for an inexpensive classic Fiat. This is for someone who understands the difference between a car that has been completely restored and a car that has somehow managed to survive through the decades while retaining its own history. Perhaps you remember travelling through Italy with your parents. Perhaps you remember these little Fiats from your childhood, parked outside a family home, a café or a small village in the Italian countryside. Perhaps you have a collection of Italian cars and have been waiting for the right Giardiniera to complete it. Or perhaps you simply have a deep connection with Italy and want something tangible from a time that can never be recreated. The Fiat 500 Giardiniera is already a special version of the 500, with its longer body, rear-mounted flat-twin engine layout and characteristic suicide doors. Production of the Giardiniera continued under Autobianchi from the late 1960s, making a genuine 1969 example an increasingly interesting piece of Italian motoring history. But the real rarity is not simply the number that were produced. It is finding one today that has not been turned into something else along the way. This one still tells its own story. The marks of time have not been erased. The interior has not been replaced simply because it is old. The body has not been transformed into a modern interpretation of a classic. It is what it is. A genuine 1969 Italian time capsule. A small car with an enormous amount of character. A piece of Italy. A piece of history. And for the right person, perhaps a small reminder of a much simpler time. 1969 Fiat 500 Giardiniera 34,000 km Suicide doors Original dark brown interior Original tyres Original spare wheel Original roof lining Additional original replacement roof lining included New original soft top included Original seat covers included New spark plugs New air filter Fresh oil Fuel tank completely cleaned Documentation and receipts preserved Imported from Italy to the Netherlands in 2000 Third owner in total / second owner in the Netherlands This is a car I would rather see go to someone who truly understands its value than simply to the highest bidder. For the enthusiast, the collector, and the person who has been looking for something genuinely special.
